Botulinum toxin

Risks and side effects

General risks (possible with all treatments)

• Redness, swelling, bruising (hematomas) at the injection site

• Pain or tenderness

• Temporary asymmetry or irregular result

• Allergic reaction, in isolated cases even leading to anaphylactic shock

• Infection at the injection site

• Scarring, pigment changes in the skin

Botulinum toxin (Botox) – specific • Headaches, flu-like symptoms

• Temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow (ptosis) • Uneven facial expressions, spreading to neighboring muscles

• Double vision or visual disturbances (rare)

• The duration and intensity of the effect vary from person to person

Hyaluronic acid fillers – specific

• Palpable nodules (granulomas) or irregularities

• Displacement or clumping of the material

• Vascular occlusion with impaired blood flow, in rare cases tissue death (necrosis)

• Visual disturbances up to and including blindness in case of accidental vascular injection (extremely rare)

• Delayed inflammatory reactions, even after months

Radiesse – specific

• No antidote available – unlike hyaluronic acid, it is not soluble

• Not suitable for the lip area (increased risk of nodule formation)

• Palpable nodules or lumps

• Vascular occlusion with impaired blood flow (rare)

Thread lift – specific

• Tangible or visible threads under the skin

• Migration, loosening or breakage of the threads

• Nerve irritation with temporary numbness

• Indentations, dents, or skin irregularities

• Surgical removal of the sutures may be necessary in case of complications

Endolift – specific

• Thermal irritation or, in rare cases, burns to the tissue

• Temporary, in some cases longer-term, nerve irritation (numbness, muscle weakness)

• Skin irregularities, dimpling

• More pronounced swelling and longer-lasting bruising than with simple injections

• As with any medical procedure, serious complications can occur in very rare cases (e.g., severe infections, vascular occlusions, severe allergic reactions). Even though such events are extremely rare, permanent damage or – in absolutely exceptional cases – life-threatening outcomes cannot be completely ruled out in extreme cases.
